With so many digital marketing options now available, it can be overwhelming trying to work out what you should be doing first. At the same time, it’s also a very exciting time for real estate agents and business owners, with so many powerful marketing tools available to help escalate and grow their business, leads and brand awareness.

I want to talk to you about something really important this week. If you’re an individual agent, and you’re planning out your digital marketing for next year, there are three things that you need to add to your digital marketing toolkit to make sure that you’re taking your digital presence to the next level next year.
Number one, is making sure that you get your own website. A lot of individual agents now have their own website and the domain name is their own name. It’s never been more important to have your own website with the rise of online ratings and reviews platforms, the portals and comparison websites for real estate agents.
We absolutely should have a presence on those platforms but we shouldn’t forget that they can change the rules whenever they like and you can’t really do anything about it. But, if you have your own website, and you’re driving traffic to your own website, you can control what happens next when you get someone there.
This is a really important point in 2018 – think about getting your own individual website that you control, you own and you can determine what happens to everyone who comes to your own website.
Number two, is regular content. I spoke about this on the video last week, about how media companies drive revenue. They drive revenue from advertising and they can’t convince advertisers to advertise on their platform without the promise of traffic, lots of traffic. They can’t drive traffic without content that those people want to consume. So, it’s really important to think like a media company when it comes to your digital marketing and publish content on your website that people actually want and you will watch your traffic increase and obviously your leads into your business as well.
Number three, is an email list. Now, this is going to be quite contrary to what a lot of people will tell you. A lot of people will tell you that email is dead and social media is really how you should be communicating with prospects and clients these days. Obviously, social media is important when it comes to marketing and customer service but if you listen to anyone who knows a lot about digital marketing – Gary Vaynerchuk for example – they will tell you how important it is to have an email list. There’s a couple of reasons why.
Number one – just like your website – you control it and you can determine how and when you communicate with that audience. That’s a little bit unlike social media where the organic reach keeps going down and you have to pay more to reach your followers. When it comes to email, you control what happens and when and how you communicate with that audience.
Number two reason is that when you send someone an email, they’re going to get it. That’s not always the case on social media unless you pay to boost your posts. Even then, you’re not necessarily going to reach all of your followers.
So, there’s your top three tips for digital marketing to add to your toolkit in 2018. Number one, get your own website. Number two, make sure that you’re creating consistent content on your website and number three is building an email list and making sure that list is growing exponentially every single month.
