Wendy has more than 30 years experience in the real estate industry, almost 20 of them with Barfoot & Thompson -New Zealand’s largest privately owned real estate company, still run by the Barfoot & Thompson families after more than 90 years. As Chief Executive Officer, she is responsible for the research and development of growth opportunities across the company and ensuring the implementation of company strategy in her areas of accountability which include compliance, customer relations, training and human resources.

In addition to her Barfoot & Thompson responsibilities, Wendy has additional directorship responsibilities within the industry including her role as Regional Director for the Real Estate Institute of New Zealand representing Northland, Auckland and Coromandel. She is a Fellow of the Institute, and is a key member of NZ Realtors – a nationwide group of strong independent real estate operators. She was also recently inducted into the Barfoot & Thompson Hall of Fame. Wendy is recognised across Australasia as a keynote speaker on both real estate and business leadership – Wendy is also presenting at AREC 2015.

Wendy says that one of the most essential elements of building a sustainable real estate organisation is to constantly seek feedback from staff as to how the business can improve, as well as, how the staff believe they can improve their role in the business.
